Harvest Date: 10-12-2022 mid to Late Autumn

Hand collected straight from the cabbage patch growing in the wet mucky soil along the stream, located just outside the back garden. The root and underground stem (rhizome) are used to make medicine. People take skunk cabbage for a wide variety of conditions. It is used to treat breathing problems including swollen airways (bronchitis), asthma, cough, and whooping cough. It is also used for painful conditions such as joint and muscle pain (rheumatism), headaches, and toothache. Some people use it for nervous system disorders including spasms, convulsions, and epilepsy. Skunk cabbage is used for treating infections such as worms, ringworm, and scabies. Other uses include the treatment of cancer, fluid retention, excessive bleeding (hemorrhage), anxiety, snakebite, skin sores, splinters, swellings, and wounds. Skunk cabbage is also used to stimulate the digestive system.

As food, the young leaves, roots, and stalks are boiled and eaten. You can find this in another listing that we offer. Join the waist list.

Roots are sold by the whole rhizomes system.

Root systems range in size.

You will receive the whole root as it was harvested.

After harvesting, the roots are washed in cold water and foreign material ( rocks, mud, and other roots) is removed by hand as best as possible. The roots are never soaked in water in any attempt to clean them as this extracts vital elements. The roots are then placed to dry in a well-ventilated environment upon racks.
