This is a fantastic summer blend of dried mushrooms all foraged here in the North Woods of Minnesota!
There are several different types of mushrooms in this mix including lobsters, chanterelles, millers, honey mushrooms, and several types of russulas. This blend has been in the making from late spring into the late summer. The summer mushrooms tend to have a lighter flavor than the hearty fall mushrooms. They are perfect for adding to stews and soups.
For rehydration you can either soak them in water, or for a fuller soup base you can also rehydrate them by simmering them in broth. For this blend I would recommend simmering in vegetable broth. This blend pairs well with chicken, turkey, and pork. If you are new to cooking with dried mushrooms this will be a good starter mix for you. The mild flavor lends well for experimental cooking (you can't overload your dish and over flavor it with mushrooms). Too few and the flavor will be really light, too many and the flavor won't over power your dish.
The mushrooms are sealed in a glass jar until purchased. I transfer them into food grade bags and they are shipped in a bag, a box, and a bubble mailer to ensure they arrive safe and sound. Each lot will have 1.5-2oz of dried mushrooms. This may not sound like much, but it actually takes dozens of mushrooms to reach this quantity.
The mushrooms will be ready to use right out of the package. If you plan to store them they should be placed in glass air tight jars and kept out of direct sunlight. These mushrooms can sit on the shelf for several years.
