It was shipped out Fri or Sat (I paid $100+ overnight shipping) arrived Mon. Must have sat in UPS truck for one or 2 days. No consideration of shipping it on Mon. When I opened, Inside of styrofoam box was probably 90+F. 6 ea matsutake had white mold. Many had worm holes and many were broken and all were covered with dirt. I paid $200 for 5 lbs of Grade 1 but definitely grade 2 or 3. I am Japanese so I am familiar with matsutake.

These were very “woody” and needed a lot of trimming. We were serving them with lump crab in a small jar, so I needed them to be bright and crunchy not chewy. I discarded more than I used, which I don’t remember having to do with previous orders.

I’ve been wanting to try Pawpaw for a long time. I was not disappointed. The scent of the fruit was intoxicating and the flavor was amazing. Sweet, notes of banana, vanilla and things I can’t name. Delicious! If they weren’t wild, I’d love to know the variety name of the fruits I got.

When my order arrived, I was disappointed to find my chicken of the woods appeared to be spoiled. The cold pack was warm and the paper bag it was it had almost fallen apart. It smelled like it spoiled. When I opened the bag I found a mostly brown and slimy in areas mushroom. It was not a solid bright orange as shown in the pictures. There were three pieces. Two were from the outer edges and one was mostly stem. This was dried out. This is my first chicken of the woods so I wasn’t sure if pictures and reality are a bit different so I trimmed off the black and brown pieces and sliced up. Some of the discoloration was all the way through the flesh. I fried up one of the trimmed pieces, that did not have any discoloration, with garlic and olive oil. The taste was sour. Again this is my first chicken of the woods so maybe it is fine, but I am not taking any chances. I had to toss the whole thing. I wish I took a picture of it fresh out of the bag, but I guess I was hoping it wasn’t this bad. The website is great and I was looking forward to trying out some cool mushrooms from foragers but I am not going to risk a repeat given how expensive the 2 day shipping is.

Hello,
We bought 2 lb of Matsutake last week and received the package on 28th Wednesday.
We have purchased some Matsutake for more than 12 years from other sources and every time we open the package, the aroma came out so strongly all the time, which is the essence of Matsutake. .
This time, when we opened the package from you, we smelled some kind of rotten, wet smell. That was not a good sign, of course.
So we leave them for drying a bit in the fridge before cleaning them.
Anyway as we cleaned them, we noticed something was not right as you can see my images. Again we have purchased this mushroom so many times but we have never seen this bad, almost a half of our purchase. They smelled bad so we threw them away.
We understand these are wild mushroom and there is something you can not control. But you should be able to smell good or bad when you pick them or you might not have stored them properly. I am Japanese, and I do know how Matsutake should be. This is very disappointing. We paid a lot of money on this, not to mention, we were so looking forward. I really want you to think about some refund for us.
