Apache Blackberry 

You will receive 4 Apache Blackberry Plans.

Your plants will be shipped with the roots wrapped in damp paper towels and with plastic and ready to plant upon arrival. These starter plants will be between 4” to 5” in height with well-developed roots. Planting guidelines will also be included.

Leaf-show will vary with the seasons. For instance, during their dormancy of Oct-March, there will be little to no leaf show. During their growing season of April- September, you should expect to see varied leaf-show. During early-late Fall, expect to see varied color changes and some spot patterns (At the end of the growing season, the leaves change color as nutrients are mobilized back into the shoots for growth next spring.) All orders include planting and care instructions. 

Growing Apache Blackberry 

Apache is an erect blackberry similar to Arapaho with larger fruit and seed, ripening 15 days later than Arapaho. Resists orange rust. Fruits are sweet when ripe. Very productive. Tip new canes at 42" during growing season. The newest blackberry introduction from University of Arkansas breeding program. Selected because of its great flavor, good yield and very large fruit. Six week ripening period. Space 5' apart in 5' wide rows. For one plant space plant in a 6' circle. 

Huge Fruit—Big as a Quarter

Jumbo-size fruits with jumbo-size flavor! Extra-fertile flowers, so you get more berries that are perfectly formed. Canes stand erect and are thornless. Ripens mid to late June.

Apache Blackberry Characteristics

* Form: Deciduous semi-woody canes.
* Soil Requirements: Tolerant of a wide range of soils, will do best in well-drained, humus enriched, slightly acidic soil.
* Growth Rate: Fast growth rate once established, which takes approximately 3 - 5 weeks.
* Pruning: Trim canes to 42 inches, remove unwanted ones in early Spring.
* Comments: A new variety introduced in 1999. It produces higher yielding and larger fruit than other Arkansas thornless, erect varieties. It is also a more vigorous and healthy variety than others currently available, so has much to recommend it. All Arkansas upright berries should be tipped at 42 inches to encourage to fruit lateral and avoid the need for support.
