This is a fantastic autumn blend of dried mushrooms all foraged here in the North Woods of Minnesota!
There are several different types of mushrooms in each mix. Species may include lobsters, chanterelles, corals, honey mushrooms, porcini, sweetbread, and several types of russula. This blend has been in the making from late summer through autumn. The autumn mushrooms tend to have a rich, hearty flavor rather than the light, nutty summer mushrooms. They are perfect for adding to stews and soups. Each lot is slightly different depending on the species available for forage on excursion days,
For rehydration you can either soak them in water, or for a fuller soup base you can also rehydrate them by simmering them in broth. For this blend I would recommend simmering in vegetable or beef broth. These blends pair well with chicken, turkey, and pork. Or they make fantastic stand alone mushroom sides. If you are new to cooking with dried mushrooms these will be a good starter mix for you.
The hearty autumn flavors will add a layer of flavor to your favorite cold weather comfort foods.
The mushrooms are sealed in a glass jar until purchased. I transfer them into food grade bags and they are shipped in a bag, a box, and a bubble mailer to ensure they arrive safe and sound. Each lot will have 1 oz of dried mushrooms. This may not sound like much, but it actually takes dozens of mushrooms to reach this quantity.
The mushrooms will be ready to use right out of the package. If you plan to store them they should be placed in glass air tight jars and kept out of direct sunlight. These mushrooms can sit on the shelf for several years.
