How to Use Dehydrated Shiitake Mushrooms
Our dehydrated shiitakes are incredibly versatile and packed with rich, umami flavor. Here are some of the best ways to use them in your kitchen:
Rehydrate and cook like fresh mushrooms: Soak the dried mushrooms in warm water, broth, or stock for 15–30 minutes until tender. Then slice and sauté them in butter, olive oil, or sesame oil for use in stir-fries, pastas, or grain bowls.
Toss directly into soups or stews: No need to rehydrate separately—just add them straight into simmering broths, ramen, hot pots, or stews and they’ll rehydrate while adding deep flavor to the dish.
Use the soaking liquid as broth: The water or stock used to rehydrate the mushrooms becomes a flavorful mushroom broth. Strain it and use it as a base for soups, risottos, sauces, or to cook rice and grains.
Blend into sauces or gravies: Once rehydrated, finely chop or blend the mushrooms into creamy sauces, gravies, or pasta dishes to add savory depth and richness.
Grind into mushroom powder: For a quick flavor boost, grind the dehydrated mushrooms into a fine powder and sprinkle it into marinades, spice rubs, or even scrambled eggs.
Add to stuffing or dumpling fillings: Rehydrated shiitakes make an excellent filling for dumplings, ravioli, or Thanksgiving stuffing.
Infuse into oils or butter: Slowly warm rehydrated mushrooms in oil or butter to infuse them with shiitake flavor—perfect for finishing vegetables, meats, or noodles.
