A Cajun classic, this powder is traditionally used as a thickener in gumbo!! When down in Eminence, MO for a camping trip, I harvested lots of sassafras namely for the root. Instead of letting the leaves go to waste, I took them home, washed/dried them, & blended it into a powder.

Disregard the okra & try this filé instead!!

In a small plastic jar. Probably best bought as an add-on due to packaging & shipping costs.

Keep in your herb cabinet.

Follow a good gumbo recipe & use sparingly, as too much might make the texture snotty.
