Steel City Spore's Lion Mane kits are reliable producers and made with sustainable materials. These tend to yield large flushes of beautiful white mushrooms, but they do need enough humidity. So extra misting is highly encourage, or place by a humidifier for this species!



After the first flush (first mushroom growth and harvest), there is opportunity for more than multiple flushes. We hope you try for them! Afterwards, our substrate is a balance of hardwoods, coffee, cardboard, and soy hulls, between that and the mycelium it makes an excellent compost for the garden.

Fully Colonized and ready to fruit.

For Fruiting:
Keep out direct sunlight and away from fans.
Best keep in area that is 67-77 degrees.
Clean the area and ensure it's free from contaminants.

For Storage:
If not ready to fruit kit, keep in cooler or fridge for up to two months before use

Gather the Materials:

Steel City Spore grow kit (includes substrate block with mycelium)

Spray bottle (for misting)

Water (preferably distilled or filtered)

Knife

Prepare the Environment:

Choose a clean and well-ventilated area for your grow kit.

Keep out direct sunlight and away from fans.

Best keep in area that is 67-77 degrees.

Clean the area and ensure it's free from contaminants.

Prepare the Grow Kit:

Remove perforated area on the side of the grow kit box.

Cut small X shape, 3-4 inches, into the now exposed section of the box

Create a Humid Environment:​

Mist the exposed area of the bag 3-5 times a day depending on how dry or humid the surrounding area is.

If you are placing the grow kit in a more dry environment consider placing it next to a humidifier or covering loosely with a plastic bag to help retain humidity.​

Harvesting:

Lion's mane mushrooms

develop as spiky, white clusters (roughly 10 days to begin to form). They will begin to form small, icicle-like growths. Once these are clearly defined its time to harvest. (Sometimes the mushroom can start off pinkish, and this is fine. Its a sign of a healthy grow and will turn white)

Blue oyster mushrooms

will begin to grow as small, pin-like structures that develop into caps (roughly 10 day to begin to form). Harvest the mushrooms when the caps are fully expanded but before the edges begin to curl upward.

Harvest the mushrooms when they reach the desired size but are still young and firm.

Repeat or Dispose: ( 2-3 flushes per block)

After harvesting, you can repeat the process by rehydrating the substrate block and returning to Step 4.

If you don't wish to continue growing, dispose of the spent substrate responsibly.
