Usnea Barbata
This fascinating gray-green lichen (a mutualistic organism comprised of fungus and algae!) has long been used in traditional medicine for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Our Usnea is sustainably collected no more than one week prior to shipment.

Our Usnea arrives packaged in 98% plant-based material clamshell containers, harvested as close to shipment as possible so that you have the option of using fresh material. Like all of our products, this is shipped USPS and generally arrives 2-3 days within the continental US.

Usnea can be hang-dried for long term storage and future use. Its natural antimicrobial properties make this product a breeze to keep without refrigeration.

Usnea can be applied topically to alleviate skin conditions and infections, either as a poultice or infused into salves or lotions. For oral applications it can be brewed into a tea or tincture, which are used to address digestive, urinary, and respiratory issues. Old Man’s Beard is also used decoratively in terrariums and craft projects.
