Lucuma (Pouteria lucuma) is grown by farmers in Calana in the region of Tacna, Southern Peru. Lucuma is one of Peru’s most popular fruits with a subtle butterscotch and maple sweetness.Ingedients:

Lucuma can be used as a low GI alternative to sugar. Lucuma is high in fibre and contains 75% less sugar than table sugar. Soluble fibre in Lucuma may help protect against diabetes. Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels. Vitamin C, Niacin (B3), Iron, Calcium contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism. High in antioxidants Polyphenols (heart health and diabetes) and Carotenoids (eye health and vision). Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Iron contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

How to use:

To deliver the equivalent sweetness, our rule of thumb is to use twice as much Lucuma as you would sugar. Lucuma dissolves well in thicker liquids such as milk, yoghurt and smoothies and is suitable for use in baked goods and pancakes.
