this poison ivy spray works incredibly well. it’s safe, all natural and offers prompt relief.
i reformulated it this year for extra strength and have been very pleased with the results!

plantain
is known as ‘the best drawing agent in all of western herbalism’
it draws poisons, venoms, debris and infection out of the skin.
it can also be used to bring abscesses, boils and pimples to a head so they can drain and resolve. on top of drawing out impurities, it helps the skin heal from the inside out.
i use it for bee stings, bug bites, poison ivy, poison oak, stuck splinters and for scrapes and cuts.
plantain is very likely to be a quiet member of your yard and is probably within arms reach if you get a bee sting and would like to make a spit poultice.

jewelweed
is perhaps the most infamous specific for poison ivy. several native american tribes used it for poison ivy, poison oak, bug bites, bee stings, acne and rashes as well as for sprains and strains.

oak bark
is a very strong astringent. it's a very good drawing agent for cleaning 'dirty wounds' and was extensively used for gangrene in old books. in a word it is DRYING. i use oak bark to draw the toxicity out and move from the open and copious weeping to dry and crusty where we are less likely to experience further spreading and can start locking things down.

yarrow
is a cleansing herb. it is excellent for open, weepy, yucky skin situations. it's a specific for cleaning blood, staunching bleeding and sanitizing a space.

this and other external remedies are especially important for those who are slow to heal. you may also be interested in my first aid salve that also includes plantain.
it’s extremely useful in particular for resolving cuts and bruises quickly.

i reformulated this to include the oak bark and yarrow because i started to have a lot of clients who had such dire poison ivy rashes that they were struggling even through a doctor's attention and formal medication. i have a poison ivy kit i can send you that has spray, salve, external compress and an herbal tea to drink if you are in a really tight spot.

if you are in a tight spot and need extra relief *right now* see if you can safely forage some fresh plantago major. it needs to be clean and out of the way of pets or roadways. use the younger leaves for tea and the older leaves for poultices/compress/bath soak. skip the little seed tails if they're in seed. very safe to brew as a tea. do not be surprised if you hack up a bunch of phlegm you didn't know existed. it is a very good drawing agent and specifically likes to work on skin and lungs. it likes to pull out gunk. it should not cause bowel upset and can be used to astringe loose bowels. but do try only one or two cups max internally if you're unfamiliar with the remedy.
