Coming to you straight from the North Woods of Minnesota- Red Pine drawing salve!!
This salve is a must have for those who frequent the outdoors. It is safe to use on most minor skin injuries, but is especially effective when applied to bee stings, slivers, and plant thorn injuries. This salve is a drawing salve. Apply it over a sting or a splinter, put a bandage over it and in a few hours the stinger (or splinter or thorn or whatever else the woods have thrown at you) will be drawn out of the skin surface far enough to grab it with tweezers. Once free of the obstruction wash gently over the wounded area to help keep infection out. You can then apply a fresh bit of salve and a bandaid. This will both ensure that there is nothing left in the skin, and the salve is antimicrobial & antibacterial so the promotes healthy healing while keeping out the germs.
This drawing salve was made using both red pine resin as well as red pine needle infused oils.
This salve should be stored at room temperature. If you happen to forget it in the truck and it gets too hot it will get runny. No worries, as soon as it cools back down it will resolidify on its own. Overheating will not reduce the efficacy of your salve.
This type of salve has an amazingly long shelf life. Several years!
