Another fantastic flower for you garden folks!
If you have never had the pleasure of growing these beauties, here are some tips to get you started off:
The bulbettes that you receive will be ready to plant upon arrival, you can either start them in a pot or take them straight to the garden. Do NOT plant these in the ground deeply. They prefer to be close to the surface. In my garden I simply sprinkle them on the ground and cover them with 1/2" of mulch.
They prefer an area that has partial shade, but they will grow in full shade to full sun. Ones that are grown in full sun tend to have fewer flowers, while ones that are grown in full shade tend to be shorter plants with many blooms.
Your tiger lilies will grow 12-16" the first year. The first year rarely yields a blossom. It will however begin to produce bulbettes after the first year. These little ladies love to spread around! By year two you can expect to see 3-5 blooms per plant and an average height around 38". At year 3 your plants will mature into 40-48" tall beauties with 6-12 blooms per plant. Each year your tiger lilies will produce multiple bulbettes in the fall. You can let them drop and move around freely in your flower garden, or you can pop the bulbettes off and share with friends.
Tiger lilies don't need constant watering like many flowers do. Rainfall is usually enough to keep them healthy. If you are in a hotter region of the states occasional water baths in the evenings are welcomed. These make excellent border plants for gardens, and also are great choices to drop in by the mailbox post as they require little care to maintain.
Each lot will have 25 bulbettes in it. Keep in mind that these are not bulbs, no need for a shovel! The bulbettes are roughly the size of dried peas. If you would like a larger quantity let me know and I will see what I can come up with.
