This beautiful Birch Polypore comes from the beautiful state of Pennsylvania. I harvest these when visiting my family's farm. As always, I only take a small portion of what is present when I go foraging to ensure that these amazingly versatile fungi are able to flourish.

Once cleaned, these are then cut into cubes and dried. After drying, they are stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

Latin binomial: Fomitopsis betulina

This amazing mushroom has been used for over 10,000 years. Otzi the iceman was found with this in his possession!

It can be used for myriad applications such as an anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, general immune support, and even treatment of digestive issues such as parasites (see the "How do you use it" section below).

Store in an airtight container in a cool dark place such as a pantry or cabinet.

The dried mushroom should be added to a pan with water and allowed to simmer gently for about an hour. As this mushroom has quite a bitter taste, I would suggest sweetening it with some raw honey and adding a bit of mint and/or lemon .

As a support during cancer treatment: Birch Polypore contains polysaccharides which are largely glucans. This makes it a great candidate to be used as an immunity booster. It has also been useful support in the treatment of cancer. It has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis (the formation of new blood cells) which occurs in tumor growth. Birch polypore also contains Betulinic acid, which has shown in various studies to initiate apoptosis, or death of cancer cells.

As an anti-inflammatory: It has been shown in many studies to be used as an anti-inflammatory due to it containing triterpenes.

For treatment of digestive ailments: An anti-biotic called Piptamine has been isolated from it and the whole mushroom is said to be effective against various strains of bacteria including E. coli.
