Native Black Walnuts gathered in West Georgia
Limited quantity remaining from last season’s harvest! Once these are gone, we won’t have more until fall.
These Black Walnuts come from the old trees on our land. We gather them by hand, then clean and cure them in small batches with care for the trees, the land, and the squirrels who share them with us.
Black Walnuts have a deep, bold flavor that sets them apart from the more common English Walnut. They’re naturally rich in healthy fats, protein, and minerals. Crack and snack, or use them in baking, salads, and roasted vegetables.
Beyond the kitchen, Black Walnuts have a long tradition of use as a natural dye and have many uses in traditional and indigenous medicines.
One pound is about two dozen nuts. The shells are very hard, so a sturdy nutcracker is important. We recommend soaking overnight before cracking to make the shells more workable.
Store in a cool, dry place. In shell nuts keep well for a year or more. Once cracked, store the nutmeats in the refrigerator or freezer for best freshness.
